Meet the Minds Behind Cobalt
Every great production needs a great team behind it. At Cobalt, that team starts with founders Kara Vedder and Alex Fernbach — two creative minds with very different skill sets and one shared passion for making production better.
Meet Kara Vedder
As Cobalt’s Owner and President, Kara brings years of experience in television, film, photography, and commercial production. Her approach to production is equal parts practical and creative: find a better way, make it welcoming, and don’t be afraid to challenge the status quo.
Kara is also passionate about sustainability and emerging technology, which has played a big role in shaping Cobalt’s approach to production. From virtual production to sustainable practices, she’s always looking for ways to make the industry smarter and more forward-thinking.
In short, Kara is a happy rebel — someone who sees a traditional way of doing things and immediately starts wondering if there’s a better one.
Meet Alex Fernbach
Alex, Cobalt’s Owner and EFX Supervisor, brings a serious dose of technical and creative expertise to the mix.
A Director, Cinematographer, and visual effects expert, Alex has worked across commercials, feature films, documentaries, trailers, episodics, and interactive projects. His resume includes an especially fun piece of film history: Alex invented the first Array Camera in the United States and sold the technology to The Matrix, helping create the movie’s iconic “bullet time” effect.
So, yes — making the impossible look possible is kind of his thing.
Alex brings that same problem-solving mindset to Cobalt, helping productions explore new technologies and push creative ideas further.
A Partnership Built on Possibility
Kara and Alex may come from different sides of the production world, but that’s exactly what makes their partnership work. Kara brings the production and business perspective, while Alex brings deep technical and visual expertise.
BTW, Kara and Alex were the first to bring virtual production technology to the East Coast, making them true veterans in an industry that’s still redefining what’s possible.
Together, they’ve built Cobalt around a simple idea: production doesn’t have to be done the way it’s always been done. Let’s do it better!
That philosophy is at the heart of Production Reimagined — Cobalt’s commitment to combining creativity, technology, sustainability, and great people to help filmmakers bring their biggest ideas to life.
And honestly, we think that’s a pretty good reason to get excited about what’s next.

We provide green screen/ blue screen technology (cost-effective for wide shots), LED wall displays (ideal for reflective surfaces and interactive lighting), and hybrid approaches that balance creative vision with budget constraints.

Our consultative approach includes explaining all available options, helping you weigh the tradeoffs, and providing ongoing support throughout the production process—regardless of your experience level.
As producers ourselves, we focus on achieving your goals—not selling you the flashiest technology. We work as partners to find solutions that enhance your storytelling within your budget.
